Dude! i'm getting a carvin
I just went t the Carvin site and saw they have some of their customson sale. The B4 is only $500! There upgrades are 1/2 off too! I'm thinking of getting one of these instead of a Fender standard jazz. What is the difference between active and passive controls and what are the pros & cons of each?
pros: actives will give you more tone control options, a hotter output signal and more headroom.............
basically more flexibility than passive electronics
cons: dead batteries
Sweet score dude! I love my Carvin!!! I've got an LB76WP, with every option it will hold! Actives will give you a ton more tone shaping and low end punch. Passives will take more gain from your head/amp to get the same punch.

True, dead batteries suck, but the really great thing about Carvins is that since the electronics are active/passive, if the battery dies, just pull the volume knob up and you're back in business. I don't know what other brands do this since I will only play Carvins.
Get the active electronics upgrade. It will be a nice thing to have that tone shaping flexibility. Plus adding the HB2 humbucker to the bass will definetely add alot more punch to your sound.
You won't be sorry if you go with Carvin. I absolutely love my BB75, it is sa-weeeeet!! The active electronics are really nice, and if I can give you one piece of advice, don't go with 2 jazz pickups - get one and get the dual humbucker, it's a monster and it sounds just great. I've played Fender, Rickenbacker (Sorry, Amy!), and Ibanez and with this one I finally feel like I'm done shopping.
Now I'm looking for the perfect amp.... *sigh*![]()
NASTY! Id love to get a carvin eventually!

75, you're absolutely right. the active/passive switch is extremely kool. i love active electronics, but none of my basses have that feature (ibanez and dean). may have to add it one day.
i've always dug the carvin basses ever since my bass teacher ('93 - '94) got one for his high school graduation gift.......
i LOVE my Carvin LB75P - fit and finish and quality, tone and price, unbeatable - you will not be disapointed - let's see some pics man!
I will vouch for the quality and value of Carvin basses too... I ordered an LB76 brand new about 12 years ago, and I still have it, love it and play it.
Their quality of woods used, fit, and finish are tops, especially when you consider the price.
Can't go wrong I've got 3 of them, thinking of going back for #4
SWEET!! I love my Carvin dearly, oh so dearly, I have a B5 fretless. I've been looking for a new fretted four, I didn't know Carvin was having a sale. NOICE.
Sorry guys, I didn't get the Carvin; I got a Fender Standard Jazz instead. After the case upgrade, shipping and a $30 finish, my $500 bass became a $ 650 bass. But I have a Fender and it sounds great!
can't go wrong with fender, I've played a friends on frequent occasions and it's a great bass, perfect for reggai ![]()
I've got two Fenders and a Carvin fretless 5.
Love the Carvin!!
Just unplug it when you're not playing and the battery lasts for ever.
Dig it!
nice - Fenders rule - i have a P and J Bass - active on both - love the tone - i can't get my Cavin to sound like the Fenders and visy versy - plus the Carvin is a 5 wire - the Fenders are 4 - thank the Gods that all basses sound different. that's why we MUST buy them ALL - yeeeaaaaa!
give us some picks man - pics- pics - all angles - make sure you include you most ugly face - and submit to the UGLY Archive as well... good luck - btw - did yu sleep with it yet - come on - tell the truth dude - we ALL do it man -
You know, I knew I always liked you Bongo! We think along the same patterns. We must buy ALL THE BASSES!!!!!!! Yeah, thats it, ALL OF EM!!!
I didn't sleep with it, but I spent most of the night with it; I'm waiting for the wifey to get jealous. I am already looking to throw more money at it. I got the agave blue and now I want to add a white pearl pick gaurd to pretty it up.
active = battery power needed to operate pups
passive = no additional power required
ive only ever used passive, so I cant give you any specs on actives. sorry.
