Well before tonight I had only heard RT play with Ozzy, BLS, and Metallica. Excellent playing but nothing extraordinary. Today I heard him on some Infectious Grooves tunes, Holy s#!t! He is wasting his skills with Metallica. Hopefully when he writes some of the Bass Lines for the next album he will incorporate some of his skill into it. Anyway someone reccomend me some Infectious Grooves to check out! I'm all ears.

Bus load of freaks, The plague that makes your booty move, Groove Family Cyco, and Sarsippius' Ark. Those are the only Infectious Grooves titles I can remember, I think that may actually be all of them. Are you familiar with Suicidal Tendencies? Should check out Lights. Camera, Revolution it was the first Trujillo/Suicidal Album.

Just listen to violent and funky from Infectious Grooves, its off the Groove family Cyco album...he is freakin' amazing. I was shocked at first when I heard he was with metallica, not really going to be able to go off like he used to.

I'm pretty sure the institution that is Metallica will forbid RT to play the way he did with ST & IF

When does the money become enough to make you give up your soul? It's to bad Metallica won't let him be him, he could probably breathe some much needed new life into an otherwise dying band.
I will definitely be checking out his other stuff.

imho though, I loved their first 3 albums, but Groove Family Cyco left me wanting. The music was great, but they started doing gangster lyrics instead of their old fun lyrics like Savour da Flavor... etc. It just left me out in the cold from that standpoint. I haven't heard the album Mas Burracho yet...

See I loved Groove Family Psyco, but then again, I've never really paid that much attention to lyrics unless I'm in the band. Just my 0.02.

True about Groove Family BK, the lyrics were something to be desired. I did find it funny though, Do what I tell you poking fun at Rage. Sarsipiuss Ark was still my favorite, a little more funky. On Groove Family, what was up with the vocal edits on Violent and Funky. Have you ever caught those? The lyrics are already edited out, but the rest of the album isn't. I always found that to be very weird.

i spent a lot of time killing brain cells w/ Sarsippius' Ark tape playing in the bckgrnd (was it the albums name 2 lol i cant remember) i remember the bass being all of the place, and amazing me (i was just a few months into my life as an ugly) and all the brain cells loved watching the video with Sarsippius dancing around thruought the song. i faintly remember the sucicidal tenecy song that was their screw the man/parents/teachers/etc/etc/ that was pretty tight as well.....lol back in the days when wearing a bandanna as a sweatband, and denim jackets with the sleeves ripped off meant you were a tough guy, instead of a san francisco club hopper......damn i wanna here some now, lol someone please email me Sarsippius' Ark.

I'm still gonna wait and see on the new metallica stuff, didn't they already have the bulk of St. Anger in the box before RT joined? I thought Bob Rock, the producer, played most of the studio bass on the CD.

Bob Rock played it all. That album although not a total waste was definitely their worst work. Hopefully RT will get them back on track.

I hope the put bass in the mix on the next album, at least! Hopefully, thier music will get better.

They always say, things get worse before they get better. Metallica IMO are at thier worse on St. Anger.

Besides, RT can rock... he toured with Zakk Wylde's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, that's some hard hitting stuff!

I look forward to hearing the next Met CD.

He was so in the groove on Boozed, Bruised, and Broken Boned. I think he'll do great things for Metallica.

after watching the some kind of monster movie, it hink the boys that are metallica have grown a little. i believe the next metallica cd will truly be a group effort, not just lars and james.

rt will be able to let loose and probably even contribute to the writing.

Ya Trujillo is da man! I saw him live with Metallica and man just the way that guy can play while still rocking out and jumping around is very insainage. I agree that he COULD do great things with Metallica but whether it will actually happen is left to be seen.

He was so head and shoulders above everyone else that auditioned in that movie--Eric Avery, Twiggy Ramirez.... He stepped up and knew everything they played and all the other guys were screwin' up. Plus he was the only one that actually looked like he could play in Metallica, even now. He was like an animal and all the rest of them were these pale, scrawny dudes who looked like deer in headlights, especially Twiggy. How that guy ever got a gig anywhere is amazing. Must have been the makeup.

And, while I lament the downward direction Metallica has taken, I don't think St. Anger is the worst...sure, the snare drum is WAY too loud on everything, but there are some sick thrashy parts. The production is purposefully raw, but Load and Reload are wheelbarrows full of cow manure....

St. Anger was just a mess in general. Blame can seriously be placed on Bob Rock without a doubt. Like mentioned above the snare was purposefully recorded that way. Also the first few tracks have a low quality about them because they allowed the bass and guitar to be picked up through the drum mics which is what give everything that weird tone. Also instead of letting James flow with the lyrics as always, for some reason Bob Rock got everybody to brainstorm on lyrics which is why some of the songs are really lame by comparison to older lyrics.

I think it's hilarious that when I went and saw them last summer with Godsmack that Kirk threw solos into all the St. Anger songs after not having any on the album. Also James was forgetting lyrics left and right and had to keep throwing it out to the audience during all the St. Anger songs.

I did get to see Trujillo gorilla stomping it around about 5 feet in front of me though and all i can say is that the guy is incredible. Like everyone else, I hope he can infuse some new life into Metallica, because otherwise they'll be on VH1's where are they now? in a few years.

I'd have to disagree JJW about Load and Reload.  I think it was a good and logical direction for them to go. Definitely different than previous efforts but had they come from someone else they would have been lamented as excellent pieces of heavy music. Very heavy but not so in your face. They are both two of my favorite albums.  As far as Metallica albums go I would rate them as #3 and #4 after MOP and RTL. Most will disagree with me but I feel AJFA only met the status quo and did not push them forward. Granted they were still feeling each other out. The Black album as good as it is has been played into dislike for me. KEA is only a little higher than ST.A in my book. I do think given half a chance RT will help take them to the next level.  We'll have to wait and see.

Everytime I hear the snare I cringe, it sounds like a stinking cowbell and I HATE the cowbell. Other than that, I really like the album and the direction, just not the production.

...should have heard him with Suicidal Tendencies and with drummer Mike Borden...what a tandem! Yes, Metallica has constricted him but it WAS his choice...knew what he was getting into (and he is NOT a full fledged contributing member of Metallica, he's more or less a Contract player).

IMO Rob is wasted playin St Anger material.
It's funny, but Cliff was the real music composer in 'tallica's writing process...and he was the bassist(and what a bassist) so maybe Rob will have some input.
I have to say I rarely even noticed Jason Newsteads lines, they pretty much followed the riffs, and were hidden in the scooped guitar tones, especially on AJFA.

Suicidal Tendencies with Rob was great stuff, but I could never stick Mike Muirs vocals for long.
There is some cool RT basswork on asleep at the wheel.
RT is an awesome player no doubt, I hope he doesn't get frustrated by Lars and Bob Rock.....I know I would!

Unfortuntaley, I haven't been big into Metallica since Load and Reload.  And I used to be really big into them.  I hope RT helps.  They're at the top of my list for bands that are on their way down and out of the picture.  Its a terrible thing to say, but its true, they haven't changed things up in 5-6 years and thats a death sentence in the music industry.

Bob Rock Ruined Metallica!!! Obviously, after Cliff's passing things would be different but from the Black album on the band got steadily worse. I stopped buying Met cds after Load though Garage Inc. was really good. You could hear Jason's bass on the Motorhead covers really well.
RT has definetly got the chops to far outshine the rest of the guys in Metallica. Hopefully he will be allowed to contribute to the next album. I'll be curious to preveiw before buying.
