* Money by Floyd
* Almost any Pixies song
five finger discount by Choking Victim
around the world by the red hot chili peppers
Too many puppies by Primus
low rider - war
seseme street theme
I've said it before there are a lot of classics, but if I was a youngun, I'd hunker down on Green Day's Dookie for awesome bass lines. Hell, I'm old and I know some of Paradise.
Folk Implosion - Natural One, probably one of the most simple to play basslines, that is fun to play.
Get Up Stand Up by Bob Marley. Stretch your timing...
low rider - war
seseme street theme
Somewhere in my stash I've got the sesame st theme song as performed in dub style by Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. It's sick.
Walk About- RHCP
not sure how this compares to reel big fish, but it's a great tune to warm up with

Too many puppies by Primus
wow. i thought there was only 3 or 4 people in the world who knew about choking victim.
try funky chicken by jaco
Choking Victim is pretty sweet but I like the Rudiments and Operation Ivy better.
rappers delight.

you can add me to the list, ive listend to them since i was in 5th grade.
its a bit simple but just plain fun to play.
the magnificient seven by the clash
in fact alot of their songs have great bass lines.
yeah mate that has got a cool b-line, london calling is also legendary
try funky chicken by jaco
It's really just called The Chicken. It's definitely a good suggestion though.
why not try -pride and joy-, by double trouble. pretty kick @$$ little bassline.
Tool-Schism
BTW-Green Day Dookie is like 12 years old
you have the same head as me dude:p
Try Paid in Full by Big Daddy kane. It's an old rap song, but the line is still used in remixes etc. It's pretty cool.
Ehhh, Tourniquet By Marilyn Manson. On second thought, that one's a little too easy... still fun, though. Pretty much any Jeordie White (of Marilyn Manson and A Perfect Circle fame) bass riff is a good path to take.
Other than that, Lithium. Not much else I can think of at the moment...
If you're into Reel big fish there's a lot of Less than jake to be conquered too.. especially from the albums: hello rockview and losing streak
see if you can find the tabs to five state drive, history of a boring town or never going back to new jersey .
Then you can tell me where you found them and if they were right
(a lot of the tabs on the net are erroneous, but since they're for free you really can't complain)
speaking of cool: I've always thought that the bassline to Black velvet was COOL!
its a bit simple but just plain fun to play.

3:rd post in a row on the same subject... But I'll just have to say that I'm really with brownleather on that one.
-London Calling, and The guns of brixton are so fun to play around with!
Wood by Alice in Chains
Master of Puppets Metallica
Battery Metallica
Orion bass solo Metallica
Seek and Destroy Metallica
These are some good songs to learn.
As ashamed as I am to admit this, I have recently been exploring some basslines from the much reviled genre of.............disco!
OK. There. I said it. But I find the basslines to such songs as Disco Inferno, Boogy Oogy Oogy, stuff from KC and the Sunshine Band and other songs I don't know the names of (I swear I don't normally listen to disco) to be very catchy, funky, easy to learn, and fun! And if you ever find yourself in need to getting the crowd to boogie for whatever reason (as I have), these basslines come in handy.

I know them too. ![]()
If you're into punk and/or ska check out the basslines of Against All Authority, The Specials, The Toasters. Also, although I don't like Green Day I might add Longview as an option. It's really fun to play, and easy too.
Old School!
Sir Duke -- Stevie Wonder
That Horn line will kick your a$$ 'til you nail it.
I don't know why... but I always dug playin' Areosmith's Mama Kin. Funk 49 from James Gang
Who keeps resurrecting these ancient (albeit cool) posts?
good q. on digging up the old posts.....
post # 34 seems to be the stop gap unless there is something that a mod deleted.
anyway - my vote goes for Readymade by RHCP. That line by flea will build some keep the fingers toned for sure.
I like the previous post about the Bob Marly tip, to keep the timing in tune while stretching it out though....good point, I like that.
While the random old post bit seems ...strange...Ya gotta admit , its kinda cool, cuz people are just replying to them like they're new...it gives us somethin to talk about.
I don't remember when this thread was new, so it didnt even dawn on me....
anyway..back to the subject at hand....which songs to learn.
He didnt say if he was usin a pick or not...BUT..
If he's usin a pick, i'd say do somethin like...Rocket queen from GnR..its just a cool riff in the beginnin i guess.(or some green day..I don't know why it mattered that it was 12 yrs old...maybe i missed somethin)
But...without a pick.. I would agree with doin some disco..
Disco inferno is a cool line..
In my current band we do a Dance medley that includes:play that funky music, get down tonite, shake your booty...(then again it also has love game by lady gaga,I love rock n roll, sexyback,Yeah by?.. Low by FloRida,Please dont stop the music by?, Hella Good by No Doubt...
ooo..that reminds me..
A lotta No Doubt songs are cool...
Learn: Spiderwebs, or I'm just A girl...those are cool bassslines..
anyway..this was a fun thread.
Later

Continuum - Jaco Pastorious
Black Eyed Katy/The Moma Dance(Same song one with and one without lyrics) - Phish.. Nice funky groovy bassline.
Peaches en Regalia - Frank Zappa
Funky Miracle - The Meters
Ramble On by Led Zeppelin
Long Line of Cars and the Distance by Cake
Too Young to Die by Jamiroquai.
Perry Mason... from Ozzy. (Bass by Geezer Butler) Had to recently learn this one myself.
Everyone may get tired of me saying it, but my favorite bassline I learned was Smooth by Carlos Santana...But, if one is into some funky older tunes, dance tunes, GAP BAND RULZ! Party Train, is one of my favorites....Some P Funk, and in Metal, I have to agree with Orion and will add Ministry's LAVA....Also, RHCP Give it Away...Fun to play!

Can relate to this....stumbled upon this young dude seemingly having fun.....worst is found my bloody foot tapping to it.. :

If you're still interested in a cool bass line to learn for fun and excercise, now don't laugh, but listen to Burning Love from Elvis Presley's Aloha From Hawaii. I think it has some neat riffage, its almost mathematical in its precision, and the tempo is just right for KICKING a$$!
Yeah Slappy
none other than Jerry Scheff
who is also known for his work on the Doors' LA Woman
tasty stuff
welcome to ubp
Hey oldfclefer, thanks for the welcome aboard. It feels good to be ugly!

Pretty much any Rancid song will give you a good workout. As long as like their music.
