"mirror image" p pickups
I was checking out some of John Entwistle's basses on the net and I noticed the double set of p-bass pickups on some of his basses (I just call them p-bass pickups or p pickups, I dont know there actual name). Does anyone play with this kind of setup? How would the sound differ from a bass with one set of p pickups?
It's like having a double bucker twang stick. Tonal possibility for ever because of placement, and blending.
BC Rich uses this on most of their better quality stuff now as well as a few others I can't recall.

Aren't they called Split Coil pickups? I'm not much of a fan of these type of pickups, and actually never even owned an instrument with those pickups in them. I do know that a P/J setup sounds nice on some basses, but not familiar with a P/P setup.
heheh you said double bucker and that made me GAS for a Warwick Doublebuck... damn you!! ![]()

I believe split coil is the technical term. Truth be told they are the most primitive form of humbucker. I have also heard them called p-pickups and on occassion also dominoe pick ups.
The double buck is probly my favorite Warwick. I heard a guy play one in a band a while back. The guys with me didn't like the sound but it appealed to me.

I was gassin' bad for a Double Buck when I first saw them advertised in a magazine. After I played one though I quickly changed my mind. I believe I posted on here about one earlier this year. Anyway's I wasn't really impressed with the sound, I mean it sounded nice with alot of tonal range over my F.N.A. but it just wasn't for me. I have to say I prefer the Bongo over the Double-Buck.
yeah my new GW 4 wire will be a mirror image P style pup configuration.. that set up is just aggressive as all hell!! really punchy, middy tone (especially depending on the brand of pup) will just knock your teeth out!! I love it, but I wouldn't put that set up on a 5 wire.. but 4 wires are thumpy as all hell!!
Damn bro, how many you got Kahuna workin on?
This is the double domino wonder that got me thinking about this pickup arrangement in the first place the cruiser. I'm really gassing over one of those!
demon's GW bass is gonna have this setup, IIRC.....
