The Wish is a little awkward to play, but it sounds AMAZING! It's also a great little attention getter. Dealing through him directly wasn't bad. I sent him a sketch of the body design I wanted, and he made it exactly. It took a little longer than he quoted me (took about 3 and a half months).

By the way.. Thanks to all for the props on my 1k post. I didn't even realize it was at the time.

Not the hijack the thread, but are you looking to get an electric upright or acoustic uprigth bass? I don't think I would trust an acoustic upright for under $500. Check the used and local market and you can probably find a much better upright still under $1000. I know that it's a huge price difference but spending the money up front will save you money in the long run. Also, there is no resale value on a really inexpensive instrument. Buy something that's nice and you should be able to resell if it you decide to upgrade or find that it's too hard to transport a full upright bass.

Soopahsweet! I wants me one o' them Ashbories... and dear god, I'm jonesin' for a double bass so bad I'm about to gut the savings account... but I love my wife, and I'd like for her stick around... I can hide the mandolin I want!

+1 on Quam's comments on going too cheap on one. You can't go wrong with an Englehardt, and I've actually heard quite a few nice things about the chinese Cremona SB2, which is running about $700, with an ebony board. You'll want to factor in a setup cost, either from the seller, or locally, when shopping as well... and freight charges...

but you don't have to buy a strap!

I've been researching this for a while!
