"Hi", and a brief intro
Okay... I've been looking around this site for about 20 min. now, and to everyone whose posts I've read, you guys are pretty cool. There seems to be an underlying understanding of truth here. (whoa... biggest words I've used all week) I've been playing bass for 12 years now, and I KNOW I'm not as pretty as when I started. I live way the hell & gone up in Edmonton, Canada. That's right. I didn't say which province. C'mon, we don't have too many cities, figure it out. I do have a band as well as a personal myspace page, but I'm an idiot, and can't figure out how to add links. Maybe I should have been a singer.
Any way, I found this site because I was looking up some answers that I didn't find. Is there anyone here that's interested in merging bass with synth? (eg. Hella Good) I've loved those sounds ever since I was introduced to Mr. George Clinton, but I play bass, not keyboard.
Does f-bomb mean fark?
Apparently so.
Anyway, welcome to the forum eeleye. I've been plying bass for less long than you, but I can still confidantly say that this place has something for everyone. Not a day goes by when I don't learn something.
Welcome aboard!!!!
welcome and enjoy the ride
welcome bro....show us your gear = pictures !!!! I always had an interest in synths, I know that roland made a bass synth pickup to go with one of their synth devices but I never used it, the same goes for those synth basses ( I remember coming across severall 80's/70's peavey synth basses across the net) but again I have no idea how it sounds like...
Stuff like that would be cool if you would be in a funk/industrial or a live techno band or something but 'clean the bass' sound is so damn nice that it sometimes feels like a shame to F%&K it up...
with 'clean the bass sound' my dumb ass brain meant to say 'the clean bass sound'
woohoo for a ultra-short attention span
Welcome, you'll enjoy the vibe here.
Are you referring to a bass synth, an analog/digital converter, or playing a synth and bass together? I'm old and don't understand a lot of this new fangled techie talk.
Pssst.... post pics of your gear
Welcome...
And... you talking about something like this? Or maybe this? Or something that might let you control a keyboard sound via midi generated from playing your bass lines like this?
On the last one... the timing is usually a little off on the electronic side so you won't want to use anything that has too percussive of an attack...
I want the last one...
Welcome to the boards! ![]()
Hey welcome to the site
We need some gear pics asap lol ![]()
Welcome to the board eeleye!

Welcome! I see we have mutual acquaintances... up for the down stroke...

Eeleye, I'm a newb here too, but I'll welcome you anyway. They are bothering me about pics too, so I'll hafta get on that...(Goth Thunderbird Epi here). I was going to tell you I got that small handheld effects processor by Korg, that works for Gui__rs and Bass. It has some damn interesting Synth sounds. $165 at GC.
Peace and Low Tones,

and that fish will never take you home to mother.....

Holy f-bomb, that's a lot of replies in one day. About the synth thing... Eyeteeth, I've played with all of that crap, and I thought it was just that. I found the same thing that you mentioned. Latency issues. If you can't be percussive, what's the point? And how is it that a computer is too slow to keep up with me? I'm dissapointed that technology won't allow me to just go out and buy what I want.
So I'm stuck in my apartment mixing cigarette smoke with solder fumes, and frankensteining $3500 of gear. Maybe I should have bought a better amp instead of playing mad scientist. Whatever. My clean tone is holy, and I'm just looking for a little demonic influence on the side.
And... oldfclefer, I'm referring to an analog/digital converter. I love the sound of my bass, but I'm beginning to realise that there's some little black boxes out there that make some cool sounds too. I want my bass to sound like my Korg. I don't care how it happens, but I would be shamed to sit behind a keyboard because I coudn't coax a new sound out of my bass.
As for the pics, it's a little humbling. I don't have a camera, but just imagine it for now...
Ernie Ball 5 string fretless,
Yorkville 1x12 combo.
Oh, and a really cool planet waves patch cord with purple stripes on the ends. Customised at 13', with a velcro tie-strap.
Okay. In lieu of a camera, I downloaded some pics that are almost exact, but not as dinged up as my stuff. So either be happy, or mail me a camera. Who buys a camera, anyway? Just think of all the purple-ended patch cords you could have had instead. For the record, don't go thinking I'm gay because of all the purple business. L&M just didn't have anything else in stock.
I didn't go for the mother-of-toilet seat look, just a black pickguard.

My amp's a little different, in that it usually comes with a dumbass guitar player who's luuging it aroung while I'm absent. On purpose.
And my bad on the speaker size, I guess it's 15. I never really checked, because it made sound.
I just read the topic on posts per day, and now I've got to laugh. Mine just quadrupled.
Nice looking gear dude.
Keller Williams has a gu!t@r hooked up to a keyboard somehow, maybe a midi connection, and he gets sounds right from the keyboard. You might check into the possibilities of doing that.
Don't worry about the post count. Mine just went over 100/day. ![]()
Welcome man, good to see someone else from Canada
Welcome aboard man. Have you got any songs/sounds that you could post here for us?
Welcome to UBP man! ![]()
Welcome, man...
Merging bass with synth? Not me, but welcome your @$$ off. You're gonna love it here. You'll get plenty of talk about the synth thing I'm sure. The thing here is you gotta post pics, and never call your bass a guit@r. It's worse than dropping an F bomb in here. Rock on bro'
