Bass rig porn - FINAL version.....
Hey all,
Sorry for my absence as of late... busy trying to get basses out, been getting a lot of repairs and setups from a local music store, and then it IS tax season... argh.
But, I know ya'll love bass and gear porn, so not to disappoint, here is the latest and FINAL version of my rack.
Well, after years (literally) of trying different and varied pieces of gear... EQ's, multi-fx processors including but not limited to, in chronological order; a Digitech GSP21 Legend, Roland GP-16, original Line 6 Bass Pod Pro, Digitech Tube Artist 2102, Behringer V-amp Rackmount.... I am FINALLY really happy with my sound and the flexibility it gives me. It's actually a little less than I was using over the past 2 years or so.
Here's a pic of the rack:

The bridge pickup processing gear is as follows:
- Sennheiser EW172G2 wireless
- ACM Audio Rack Tuner
- Line 6 Bass Pod Pro XT
- BBE Sonic Maximizer
- Ashley compressor
- Peavey Classic 120 Mono all tube power amp
- Two Marshall 1965 4x10 cabinets, one angled (1965A) one straight (1965B)
Neck pickup rig is:
- Sennheiser EW172G2 wireless
- BBE BMax preamp
- AB Precedent 900A power amp, bridged
- Two Steelsound 2x15 cabinets, rewired for 16 ohms each
.. and here is the full setup:

For smaller clubs and stages I simply run one stack.
Oh, and the thingy under the BMax is a silly little one rackspace unit I made that allows me to have up to 3 basses plugged in at a time (the wireless units are plugged into the first set of inputs from the rear inputs which are in parallel with the front panel inputs for bass #1)... That way if I break a string or just feel like switching basses in the middle of a set, I simply turn off the inputs for the bass I was using, pick up another bass, turn on it's inputs and spank away.
I've also recently acquired one of the original Peavey Midibase basses. I'm still playing with it at home, but plan on including it in rotation for our shows. Maybe program a drum set into it and play drums on the bass, eh? More on it later....
Okay, time to finish my lunch and back to work!
   !
Deep in your heart... you KNOW it really isn't final... only good for now. ;)
Killer setup. I'd love to hear it. the only thing I'm not happy with right now, is my overdrive sounds... just don't like 'em. been looking for something else... but haven't found it yet.
BTW... I'm glad I don't have to cart that around.
so Kahuna just how often do you play the RCA dome:D
Do ya have roadies or really understanding band mates:)
I wouldn't even know what to do with all that.
mine looks so.....small
I wouldn't even know what to do with all that.
I Agree. K.I.S.S.!
Seriously, too much gear for me...
mine looks so.....small
That's just the cold wheather:D
Good luck trouble shooting that beast.
Man, you must have some gigs......
my 2x10 rig is a pussy to you.
Hail Bass Kahuna!
Dude!! wtf! it huge! what kind of gigs do you play anyways? :o
i bow before you!
*looks a gear.......cries*
OMG...that is one sweet set up. i bow down to you sir. you are the gear god.
Bows* Im not worthy...

Man has he got you all fooled. That's a carboard box with a picture on it. He plays through a 15 watt behringer. Sheesh gullible people. :)
H
could'nt say it better brother
The second thought that struck me... With everyone asking about his gigs...
Kahuna is playing with a group that doesn't use cabinets on stage... they run everything direct...
Or, has that changed?
I think I like your new setup better, but its all up to the way it sounds.
The rig is even bigger in person! I helped carry it when he moved into his house in Indy and it was HUGE!! Those casters underneath are mighty little beasts to carry such a load everywhere! Sweet rig man.
Oh, and the kitten in the ceiling is dead now ;)
Wow.
Keep living the dream, BK! You're an inspiration to us all!
If ya think about it, it is just two pretty simple bass rigs. Bridge pickup is wireless > tuner > preamp > bbe > compressor > power amp. Neck pickup rig is wireless > preamp > power amp.
We used to run no amps or cabs on stage, then we did a show that someone reviewed and he dinged our twangers tone... next thing ya know he's got two Marshall 4x12 cabs on stage..... I hadda keep up!
When I was in my late teens and early twenties, everybody hauled around big stage setups and PA and light shows. There were a TON of bands around the Buffalo area that did... Talas, Peter Wolfe, Weekend, Jambo, Sky, Rasputin, Kid Sister, LaMonte, and a ton of others. And all the clubs were good sized and were setup for bands with big stages and dance floors. So...the guitarist and I are both old school prima donna big ego rockstars and we're trying to still do that type of an over the top show.
Here is a pic of our whole stage setup fwiw...

If you're interested, you can see a few more pics and info of our full setup on our site at: http://www.rockerboxband.net/bandequipment.html
Looks good, I would like to move into rack gear someday

Well, if anyone's rig is big enough to move into, it's Kahuna's :P You got hardwood floors in there Kahuna? lol!
Yo Kahuna, isnt that an Alesis 3630 Compressor?
If it isnt, that Ashley sure does look like it...
I wouldn't know where to start pluging that rack in. That thing must eat up all the power in the city, romaing blackouts because BK is woodsheding.
The purple attitude bass is so sweet!!!!!!!
Hey all,

!
You have a Sheehan inspired P-bass also. That's so cool. Here's mine that I made myself.

Yeah, but can you get it off the stage in five minutes?
that thing is monolithic! It would definetly be too much for me, couldn't get my head around all those switches and wires
I thik I'll stick to single heads ;)
Yeah, but can you get it off the stage in five minutes?
you don't have to if you're the headliner ;)
think big
Here are a few pics of my rig setup.
I use the mixer so I can have a few different basses plugged in, the volumes & tones set, and all I have to do is turn the channel on or off depending on which bass I'm playing.
For power I use a GK 800RB and a pre Gibson Trace Elliot AH350SM. The other stuff in the rack is for tone shaping or effects.

Nice setup YB, I can relate. At one point I was also trying one of those Art Tube Preamps in front of the Behringer V-Amp I had for a while trying to warm it up a bit and add a bit more bite....
Lessee.. yes that is an Alesis 3630... works fine and was cheap to boot.
Hey Sho.. maybe not under 5 minutes, but definitely in under 10 minutes. The speaker cables get rolled up into the back of the rack, the guitar cables and foot controller cable go in a small anvil style briefcase, the foot controller drops into an anvil style case and I'm off. And yes, I have done it. Played a few shows at the Bluebird Theater and others with a similar rig (4 cabs and a rack.... ). Ain't no thing.
I do have an SWR Silverado 4x8 350W combo and a small Crate 2x8 guitar practice amp in case I need anything for really small shows or coffee house type gigs. Haven't needed them for that so I just use them for teaching my bass students right now.
And yes, we actually do have 3 roadies that are responsible for load in, setup, and then loading out, so all I have to do is run my speaker cables and signal cables before a show, sound check, then button up my stuff for loud out and scoot. Often I'm home in bed before they start loading the trailer.

I got to play on one of those Silverado Combos. I loved it--I wish I could get one to throw ontop of my 4x8 cab.

Nice, never thought of the mixer angle before
AYAYAYAYAYAY! Pardon my spanish, but that is killer. Like some other guys said, I wouldn't know what to do with it all but it sure does look mighty sweet:D
Because my mind is too simple to embrace the richness and fullness of what you guys have there, there is only one thing I'll say:
what do you people drive, and can I get it in Australia? :D

wow. I just pooed my pants. Specfreakingtacular.
rock.
