piccolo bass

I want to turn one of my basses into a piccolo bass. Does your bass needs some adjustments. Or can you just put some set of piccolo bass strings on it and that's it?

anyone ever played on a piccolo bass or has one?

I'm guessing the usual neck, bridge and nut adjustments, and your bass would be good to go

I have an iron (or bronze?) nut on my Aria SB1000E. This is the bass that I am going to use for it...because it has a nice thin and long 24 frets neck.

Do you think this nut can handle the thin strings?. I mean will it be a problem that the string slots are too wide? I don't want to change this nut.

lol, wtf is a piccolo bass?

sry im so noob :O

It's a bass tuned an octave higher.... bassically, it's a 4 string gu!#@r.

cool, i want one! so you can basicly buy a cheap as bass and tune it higher?

what about pick ups?

Ive heard of a piccolo bass before, but dont think Ive actually listened to one being played... you might need to throw a new pic bass song on your myspace barend. do it, DDD commands you!!!

when the bass is finished I will for sure! I obey your orders.....I have to order some piccolo strings somewhere first..

actualy the piccolo bass is not just a four string guitar. Sure it a bass tuned one octave higher. But it has thicker strings then a guitar. The gauges are 052, 042, 032, 020 (from E to G). Depending on the brand of course.

Listen to Stanley Clarke for an example how it sounds.

Didn't Les Claypool use one of those too, on some of his stuff?

I dunno but to totally derail this thread I dig your sig Llatikcuf... one of my favorite movies of all time...

what do you get when you cross an owl and a bungee cord?

...my a$$.

Today I have put the piccolo bass strings on my Aria SB1000E bass.

I didn't have to make any adjustments whatsoever. Just put on the strings and ready was my piccolo bass.

It sounds really cool. Not really like a bass. More like a hybrid bass/guitar. If I put an octaver on it it sounds very tight. But you also can play more chords and melodies. You will get plenty of new ideas when playing this axe. So if you have a spare bass it is worth a try.

See if I can put some song with this bass on my myspace page this week.

Anyone know any songs (besides Stanley Clarke) which use a piccolo bass?

4-string geetar

I heard Brian Bomberg play piccolo for almost 2 hrs. It did not make me want one, and if my two companions had not been so fascinated, I'd have been outa there in about 20 minutes.
