Interesting rigs - what's yours?
I use a fairly non-standard bass rig, which grew out of the fact that I play several instruments onstage with my band Avalon Rising and need to have them all plugged into the same rig.
Instruments include an Ernie Ball Music Man 5-string Stingray, an acoustic guitar with Bill Laurence soundhole pickup, Gibson K-1 Mandocello with piezo bridge pickup routed through a Fishman Pro Platinum Bass EQ/DI/preamp, and electric guitar.
I route all these through a Mackie 1204 mixer, and then to a JBL EON powered 15 cabinet which has about 180 watts of power. The Stingray bass goes first through a POD...I like using the Acoustic 360 amp simulation; it seems to give me a clear and detailed bass sound. If I'm playing my Jay Turser P-Bass copy, or my Kay upright, I like to go with the Polytone Brute simulation.
I've never had a real dedicated bass amp-'n'-cabinet rig, and am curious about what other bassists like. I suspect many rigs would provide more horsepower than I really need...our band is loud, but not very loud, maybe on the level of a country bar band (although we play progressive Celtic/Medieval rock). I'm fortunate in that, for the last 20 years, I've played with an excellent drummer who does not play loud enough to wreck my hearing.
Comments welcome!
tell me more about the mandocello (all i know is the wikipedia entry).
oh yeah welcome to UBP.
my rig is fairly normal. main bass is an ibanez BTB1006EOL 6 string.
dry: TubeWorks BlueTube II preamp (and behringer parametric EQ) feeding a Carvin R1000 Fx return. avatar b212 delta provides the air movement. sometimes i like the b410 from below on this as well.
wet: lineout from TWBT2 above feeding an SWR 350X into avatar b410 delta. boss dd6, ce-5, bass balls, dunlop 105q wah and a ibanez tube screamer in the chain.

Sold the trace cab and I am going for another eden.
Did that hartke head come with the wood cover or did you make it?
My rig is fairly simple

SKB 6 space rack, Genz Benz GBE 400 head, into a behringer exciter enhancer and behringer rack mount tuner and a crate 4x10 cab. also i use a ampeg 4x10 classic cab at the practice studio
I use a mesa venture 600watt 2x12 combo
I can add an extension cabinet if I want
welcome to ubp
My rig: SWR Mo' Bass (Tube pre/Analog Effects/650W power into 8ohm Goliath III cab); SWR Mo' Control (pedalboard for Mo' Bass); SWR Interstellar Overdrive (for recording); Korg DTR-1 Tuner; Samson PS9 Power Strip:

I sometimes use gu*tar amps, like a Crate Power Block or Peavey Rock Master [all tube]. I suppose even my BassMan tube heads are actually gu*tar amps, even tho Fender didn't really originally intend them to be. My AI Clarus that I think of as a bass head isn't really a *bass* head. It's just an amp. KB, Bass, Gu*tar ... it really doesn't favor anything.
Some of my best cabs are just 12 PA drivers in ported cabs, no tweeters or horns. I use my rig to help me to hear my ax. I don't use my ax to drive my rig. Since I play mainly FL, this works out less strangely than you might imagine. I guess my rig aesthetic is more in line with URB than typical EB.

What does the Cat do?
My rig at the moment is my bass to a line 6 DL300 Pro modelling amp with the FBV shortboard. not too impressive but my future rig will be
Future Rig:
bass pickup 1 --Clean channel on pedal board(designing it now)-volume pedal-preamp1-amp1
bass pick up 2 -Wet channel on pedal board( again, designing)-volume pedal-rest o pedals-preamp2-amp 2
Wont have that until I finish kinks out on the pedal board( need a custom bypass thing..um..ya..I might make a thread about that ) and the money to make it all work :D
Did that hartke head come with the wood cover or did you make it?
I bought the head used (Its almost as old as me! lol!) and the previous owner made the cover using the standard rack mount holes and some lacquered wood. Pretty pimp though eh?
Nice cat Jackie Sampsel.
I like to be able to switch on and sound good, not have to mess about too much, so I use an Ampeg SVT, amazing amp, or an Acoustic amp head for smaller gigs. I run them thru either an FBT 15' cab or a 4x10 Sun cab.
Here's a pic of my Acoustic amp with the FBT.
And a pic of Dave my cat
nice pics all...
I gotta take some of my modded rack case.
I took one of those off the wall wall mount guitar hangers....bolted it to a 2.5 x 12 piece of steel...routered out some excess plastic in the handle of the rack (with a jigsaw hehe)....
and viola..a guitar stand that doesnt take any floor space...just slides in and out of the side of my rack....and i hang my bass off the side.
i know , i know this is useless with out pics...I didnt want the thread to fall by the proverbial wayside before i got em'
But when i take the pics (next tues) i'll bring this thread back.
and im allergic to cats so i dont have cat pics.

My rack actually has two Wallacher WR1 Guitar Hangers - they are made to bolt onto the rack rails (mine are mounted to the front of my Korg tuner) and fold/swing to the center so you can put the lid on. They hold my Warwicks nicely, but with only a 4X10 cab under the rack, the basses still touch the floor...add a 2X10 and they will hang from the holders. Look closely and you'll see them holding at the headstocks:

Here's a pic from the Wallacher site:

Alrighty here is mine. Hasn't changed in quite a while.
The whole setup.
Just the brains.
Power Supply
Sennheiser Wireless
Korg Tuner
Rocktron Blue Thunder
Hartke 3500
No pic but I play through a peavey tnt 115...very exotic, i know :p

Welcome Moose!!!! My New MandoBass Bro!!!
I've been sick-deep in the mandolin for 2 years now... those Gibby K1's are sweet!
ironically, this is the clearest shot I have of my rig...

Hartke HA3500 head (thanks WLE!) Hartke 210XL, which I HATE the sound of alone, but coupled with the Bag End 15 at the bottom, the whole things sounds like me.
and I'm spankin' my Draleon Royale mandolin... the big-shot Tennessee luthier that set it up for me, called me and said this is the most amazing sounding mandolin I've ever heard.
HUGE, full tone... Django would be proud, Big Mon, probably not so much... cool with me!
This is my gigging rig:

That's exactly what I was gonna ask. I've damn near bought one more than a few times but I've never been able try one and you can't really find much on them through the net.
What's the word on the Blue Thunder, Snuff?

For those of you interested in the Blue Thunder....
Ok i enjoy this thing. But that said it is only because I have made my own patches to suit my needs. I use this mostly as a unit to add some reverb and chorus to my sound. There are some other neat sounds in here too. The sweepable EQ is fantastic, but you need to know how to use it. The biggest complaint I have about this unit is the overdrive. It sounds fake and digital and harsh, def go with another unit for od. Like I said I was not big on the presets but the amount of editing options lets you get almost any sound you want. Also there are some really great delays in this thing.
Hope that answers some questions from the peanut gallery!!
those rack hangers are cool..
I will post up soon, I am in the process of changing....
Yo!
me want um rack hangers um!

Here's my rig: I've got the thump coming from the Ashdown, the Control coming from the Alesis, and the comic relif from Larry Gonick.

Can you really pick that thing up by the handle on top?

I must hear this music of which you speak of. If its awesome I will bring it to my LARPing crew and we shall slay ogres to it. Then we will dance the dance of the mongrel goat beast and much merrymaking will occur. One time I made so much merry that I woke up with the itchy man-berries. Turns out one of the elves in my LARPing crew got into the dwarf brew and decided to shave me with his elkhorn blade. Man what an awkward morning that was!
butforealz, I use a seperate poweramp and preamp, run through a nifty little SWR Goliath III 4X10 cab. It is really really loud.
rock.
