A Big 'Ol Pot of Crow Stew!
I've never been wrong and if I had I wouldn't admit it but here for the first time an unprecedented event. I finally got to listen to the new Metallica album, from cd, not a crappy download and I LOVE it. The best of old and new together. James voice is actually working and the musicianship is outstanding. True to Metallica fashion the bass could use a boost but the rhythm is good the drums are good the leads are awesome and Rob is a good addition to the band. (I still miss Jason, always will!) The unforgiven 3 is a bit of a letdown. Could have had an entirely different name as I don't hear any similarities to the original or the second. I thought these guys had lost it after St Anger but now I'm thinking that album was for them not us. Everybody is entitled to one turd. I'm glad they got it out of their system.
Back to your previously scheduled programming. I got some stew to eat.

Can't get past the first track due to the brickwall limiting job they did on the album. Whoever mastered that POS should be shot, and so should the band and Rubin for approving the masters. RIP dynamics....transients....
I'll only be able to listen objectively when they either remix or remaster that botch job. The loudness wars is an understatement....

MMM, Crow Stew :)
I came hear thinking we were gonna share recipies or something only to find myself trapped in a Metalli-pussy-cats thread. jk:D
Anyway, back to Crow Stew...

+1
Already stated, but James' vocals and lyrics were a dissapointment. Other than that it rocks.

For me the lyrics have never been one of Metalicas strong points, and still the ones I've seen from this album have been sub par, even by their standards. I think it's enjoyable, but I agree with the sound not being so good, it sounded quite empty.
Need moar bass.
Welcome to the dark side people ;)

It's funny you mention that... it was all over the radio about how the new Metallica songs sound better on Gu!#@r Hero 3 than on the CD.
Yep. I've heard that one. Lars did an interview recently dismissing folks who bought the album and complained about the sound quality/clipping. He's endearing himself to his fans once again....
There's been loads of discussion on it on the various recording forums I frequent and will continue. Most of the language used was much harsher than mine :D....

You should check out the metallica forum, and what they are saying about the mastering, especially with the the snare drum.
There's a snare drum on it? :D Last time I checked they tried to eliminate all transients off that album. A few must have snuck past the mastering engineer while he was repacking the bong.
Yep. I bought the CD and I LIKE IT! Hard-driving rhythms and screaming leads. Can't go wrong with that.
