Things I like about UBP

The whole idea behind the place (Ugly Bass Player? Hell yes we are!).

The small comunity feel.

Run by it's own owner!

The ammount of different genres ages and nationalities that give this place so many different POV.

A place where how expensive your bass is is NOT equivalent to how good it is, or how good of a player you are.

I like the fact that you younguns are keeping me up on what's happening right now in bass

I like the fact no matter how stupid the question you ask, you will NEVER(yes!) get flamed for it, only positive responses.

It's like a little family here.
I feel really close to a lot of the members here, and I've never even met them.

I also love how everyone is so supportive of everyone else.

I like that all the musicians here are pretty damn cool.

Funny how I was pretty much thinking the same thing last night.

Some recent examples for consideration:

Nazman's colon cancer operation generated a lot of prayers and well-wishes. When he shared that experience, a lot of us went to get checked out ourselves which was a very good thing.

We were all praying or sending positive CSS vibes when Thorn had to endure yet another hurricane recently. She had a lot of uglies behind her on that one.

We've been there to offer whatever support we can to help Heavy P stop smoking and keep living. A very positive thing indeed.

We offered our condolensces and support when Silver Surfer's kitty passed away. As many of us are also pet owners, we could relate to the pain he was going through.

One of the biggest treats here has been the birth of little Grady, aka mini-Demon. It's awesome that we could all share in the joy experienced by Dan with his new son.

The amount of respect and admiration for each other here is truly amazing.

I like the food.

and all the tight pants.

and the work we are doing developing new vaccines.

Here are the reasons that I love UBP..........

1. Huge amount of greatness in the people here. From one end of this earth to the other are some of the finest minds, hearts, and souls around. I feel very fortunate to know you all.

2. Even in the face of offensive remarks and things that rub someone the wrong way, if you take a day to get over it, you realize it's only a little love spat and everythings cool at the end of this UBP rainbow! (;)UNC)

3. We are truly a family. You don't get to pick your blood relations, but you get to pick your ugly relations! (sounds cool)

4. NWB's post said it all in so many ways..You guys have been there for me through thick and thin, hurricanes and pain. I love you for it!

5. I don't always say things the right way, or at the right time, and I can be very eccentric in some eyes, but I am truly happy to be unique and a little whacked out, because I don't think you'd all find me quite as fun or interesting if I was normal!:eek: (normal?_)

6. Because of UBP, I want to go to Australia and Ireland, and Sweden and all these beautiful places you have all shared through your stories and pictures.

7. I apologize if I have in any form offended anyone of you in the past. I truly am a person of strong convictions and have a strong Southern religious background, and a mEtal HeAd on top of that, makes for a strange chick, but hey, I play bass ya'll! What more could ya want?

My wishes are that our world grows closer and happier and healthier as a result of recent elections. I hope that all of us remember that there are so many more things about us that are more important than politics to start with. We will all stand together through thick and thin because it's a family, an ugly family that rocks! My appreciation to Slade for a wonderful home here. My love and gratitude to all of you uglies.........A year ago I never had any of you in my life. Now I cannot imagine my life without you all!

First of all, props to Largemouth for posting this thread at a time when emotions were running high, and for instinctively knowing when a boost to morale was needed.

Secondly to NWB who, as usual, cut to the facts cleanly and stated what most of us know already - we really do care for each other and a silly thing like politics doesn't have a hope in dividing us.

To Slade, for closing the political thread after we all blew off a little steam. Should charge us all for a therapy session - rather blow it off here than on our loved ones at home.

To Thorn, for coming home. No need to apologise for being you. Don't change it - we love the way you are.

To Devious Dan, for being the most irreverent funny in-your face crazy man. You make us all smile and realise that there's more to life than the daily grind.

To OFC for your sincerity and experience. Your one liners also get a mention.

And to the rest of you buggers - y'all ugly!!

I know this, my wife gets tired of me talking about you guys and gals like you're people I really know. It's just people you met on the internet.

The sense of community. That's what I like.

Folks from all over the world, different parts of the US, vastly different backgrounds, experience levels, and tastes all coming together with a common love for a stick with strings on it.

I like that everyone is respectful of eachother. That Are you Dogging it thread is a great example.

I like that most people play bass better than I, so my questions are answered so quickly.

Most of all, I like the tradition here.
I can't believe how many have been here longer than I. I've been here about 5 years now, and ran through two names. I think my favorite things was when I posted a pic of me and my son, and everyone realized I was white. I didn't know they thought I was not white, so it was kinda surprising, not that color has ever been a factor on this site.

I like everyone's attitude, big ups to Slade, Halfie, OFC, Headle, Tone Bender, Demon, Rug, Alienz, and maybe a few more old skoolers that keep the attitudes in check on those rare occasions they begin to get heated. The best part of all that is you do it with class, and I guess that's the difference between UBP, and other forums: everyone here has class.

i like the fact that now i view bass players as family, allies, friends rather than as competition (pre-UBP, 5.5 years ago now).... it made a world of difference in my attitude and i am much better for it.

i also like the fact i got to participate in 2 or 3 Colorado Uglyfests and make the friends i have. that DVD is coming i swear.

i also like the fact that after relocating that i already knew bass players in the state i moved to who were very friendly and outgoing to a new guy and his family (thx Randy (bare handed) and Ron (OFC))!.

i also like the bass porn, disagreements, string threads and lack of attitudes.

i like that i leave my computer on the who's online page so that i get the instant email notifications to threads i am subscribed to throughout the day since i do not check in from work.....

i appreciate the fact that slade and webby have made this site possible.

haha i know! But i am studying abroad for the year, im actually from Massachusetts (still far), but we go to school together.

I've been so busy for the past 3 years that i havent had time to really do anything but lurk around when i have time.

1. I like the family feel
2. The fact that there are professionals here like Amy and Bass Kahuna who gets in Magazines and on TV and still have the still will talk to us amateurs as equals. I thought it was really cool a while a go when I was conversing with Clatter and then to see her video and concert footage. I thought it was cool that I have conversed with her. It was like I know her, though I really don't. Now if Geddy was only a member:rolleyes:.
3. advise is usually awesome
4. Some comic relief (It goes a long way after a bad day at work thanks DDD)
5. The porn - oh yeah baby it's all about the porn
6. Members will help to motivate others - oh yeah, How's the smoking HP - hee you're a steak sauce

8. Thorn, without her, I never would have learned to count over 1000:D
9. Getting to meet people from all over the world
10. Getting introduced to many different music styles and cultures
