score!
Well, I finally snagged a day gig.
I'm delivering meals to the elderly and disabled.
It's a paying gig.
Seems like a good company.
Four day week, but I'll be putting in 55 to 60 hours in those 4 days.
Monday through Thursday are completely blanked for this gig which is a down side.
But when those folks see me with their food they rejoice, and that's a big time reward.
It's going to take some adjustments, but I've always said that life is a series of adjustments.
Wish me luck.
Good luck Ron!
This sounds like a really good job and would be very rewarding in many ways.
Congratulations and I'm sure you'll really enjoy it.
So then, you still have weekends free for gigs?
Can't tell you how happy I am for you, ol' timer. :D Really, its damn tough out there right now, so I'm glad to hear you landed something. I agree with NWB, it sounds like it will be rewarding on many levels too. Very, very good news. Grats!
Excellent, excellent news, OFC. You might find this really fits well with your personality, too.
God works in mysterious ways...
Sounds like a good gig man. You get paid to help those less fortunate then you. Can't go wrong with that.
Congratulations to you.
Xcellent! Always good to see people smile, and now you have an extra day to do what you want every week whether it's working on the barn, working on music, or working on Mrs F.
Congrats Ron!
H
bitchin' Ron!! stoked for you amigo.....
Great news OFC, glad to hear it! Sounds like this is right up your alley. I have a lot of respect for anyone who takes time to help the less fortunate. Hope it goes well! Take care

sweet ron. i wondered where you had disappeared to.
congrats on a very kool job. just think, you could always go back and play music for these same elderly folks (those that can still hear anyways)....

yeah disappear is the word
I'm not available 4 days per week
period
the band's been practicing in Wednesday so that'll have to change, but I've talked with them and they're cool with it
we just landed a really good paying New Years eve gig btw
and it's like ships passing for me and Gale for those 4 days
up at 3am and home at anywhere from 5pm to 9:30pm depending on the day
I'm riding with a trainer so far, but I know i'll slow down for a while when it's just me
I'm not opposed to hard work or long hours
Gale's been really supportive, I'm sure there'll be bumps at times, but I can really get used to a 4 day week that let's me stay with the band
Most of these folks are WWII generation and we don't play any Glen Miller or Tommy Dorsey so playing for my clients is probably not going to happen
they don't get much human contact at this stage
their spouses and friends are gone
many have either not saved for retirement, not earned enough in their lifetimes to merit a liveable stipend from ssi, they've outlived their pension funds, or they're too sick or injured to help themselves
when our truck pulls up, most are waiting right by the door and really appreciative
some have to be wakened or snapped out of a daze
I'm learning a lot about that stage of life already
to tell the truth, I'm not far from it
it's scary, but I see some who are making the most of it too
I think I'm going to like this job
Ron, this is awesome news.:D
You truly are a prince-of-a-man.
I can imagine how rewarding it is for you.
Also great news about the Yokels.
Sir, my hat is off to you.
Best of luck to you and Mrs. OFC.
Is it Meals on Wheels? Congrats Ron. I would like to get on here driving the Handi Bus. I like the Seniors in this town, you learn a lot from them.
I think I'm going to like this job
Liking what you do is the most important thing.
Good luck with it.
+1 to all above, and to your new employment.
And i must agree with you on the faces of the seniors when you not only bring them food, but give them a smile and just some friendly conversation. I do a drum circle for seniors and nursing homes and when you just extend even a little olive branch a person who wouldnt give you the time of day is jumpin shoutin and having fun.
I recently had a conversation with a 87 year old former ugly with advanced alzheimers.
After our circle he had this grin on my face, then he asked me if I played any other instruments.
So I told him I was a bassist and he just shot up, telling me what kind of upright he used to play and how he was in a big band on the doghouse and in a jazz band on keys.
This is a guy that would barely even talk to the staff.
That experience made my week and I'm sure you will have one too.
Good luck brother!

Luck sent :)
Dude that's pretty awsome, at least you can feel good about what you do.
Oh, and Congrats on the new job to
