.
the cult of....
Living Color called it Cult of Personality
FDR
JFK
MLK
were their examples
I read this morning that Boy George was convicted of imprisoning another person and will face jail time
Also O.J. got jail time for armed robbery
Both are iconic figures
Early in life their accomplishments are historic
O.J. ran some of the most exciting plays ever seen in football
but he'll never be remembered as the best like Jim Brown or Walter Peyton
Boy George cowrote and sang on one of the greatest albums ever recorded
but he'll never be compared to Elvis or McCartney
they're certainly great at what they do
but when their youth passes
some have a real problem with either not having the fame
or that notoriety following them around
it's the life after the intense fame and adoration that seems to be a problem for many
still they grab a headline when they break down
remember when Paul Reubens (PeeWee Herman) got caught jerkin the gerkin in a dirty book store?
PeeWee's playhouse was a classic because like the classic Warner Bros and original Popeye cartoons, it was written for adults
his career has rebounded since he went back to playing supportive parts
but still, the intense fame and recognition comes back to bite a lot of them
Any thoughts on this from you ugs?
Just because you're famous for something doesn't make you a good person. Many of these people have extraordinary talents but lack in common decency and other worthwhile traits. There are a lot of people who have attained some aspect of stardom but don't let it get to their head, and are good people..and I don't have much sympathy for celebrities. There are people who are far more deserving of attention and never get it, and there are people with more serious plights in their lives and noone even pays attention to them.

I believe the song was very much about idolization and the fall of any human. Realize nobel prize, a leader speaks that leader dies, you don't have to follow me, ONLY YOU CAN SET YOU FREE!!!!!!!!

Thanks Thorn, I read that and instinctively Vernon Reid's amazing guitar riff flashed in my brain.
It seems that those that achieve greatness early run out of things to reach for and do stupid things later on. I guess I'm glad I'm average, :)

They're all just people doing things that people do, for better or worse.
We're the ones that make them into anything more than that.

I'm just quoting J-Rug here because he makes perfect sense to me.:)
Yeah all that sh1t does is prove they're humans, not the gods some make them out to be. That's the good thing about celeb-reality shows. They show that stars are not the uber cool folks we make them out to be.

Exactly, I've always done mildly stupid things and continue to, but nobody really notices :D
Aw ****, if I had papparazzi following me around like some of them, I'd be in a heap of trouble. Not cause I'd attack them, but because they'd catch me making an ass out of myself so much. If I ran for office, and they looked into my background, it would be hilarious. Bill Clinton wouldn't even vote for me!!!
awww man, Living Colour rocked.
I had that tape.
anyway.
nothing really to add but that.................
BADGERSSSSSSSSSSSSS
rock.

Ever hear LC bustin' a move on Hendrix's Crosstown traffic?
It's unbelievable.
Great great group.
Well yeah. People do stoopid things
but conformnow has a point.
Sometimes character eclipses image

I don't think I've heard that but I've heard their version of Burning of the Midnight Lamp. Living Colour is one of my all time favorite bands. Awesomely creative.
But back on topic. Entertainers can be equal parts narcissistic and insecure. I think, over time, some of these folks develop a sense of entitlement. When enough people tell you how great you are and cater to your every whim, you might eventually start believing it.

As the great Neil Young once said, It's better to burn out then to fade away.
Well, at least it seems that way for some of these rock stars. Some just can't keep out of trouble. I suppose it's the pressures of fame and fortune getting to them?

Well the times, they are a-changin'.
