Really Lame
i am proud of the south...i love it here....but....
my daughter is out of school today, it was announced last night on the news that the schools will be closed today....why? is it because of snow? no....it is because of a bomb threat? no.....it's because it's to cold outside:mad:
I'm not even kidding...they let school out because it's chilly.
me and my wife work and so do our parents, so that leaves no one to watch i daughter if they let school out...usually we can plan for it...but i was not counting on school being out because it's cold....I'm still in shock:confused:
i never got out of school because of the wind chill.
by the way it's 8 degrees...that's not even that bad..how lame
Wow that is lame
Kind of reminds me how the school bus (the one I always manage to get stuck behind going to work) stops every five feet (literally, I'm not kidding) at every driveway, because it is too dangerous for a kid (accompanied by a parent no less) to walk those five feet to the proximal driveway.
Too cold? Whatever, it was -2 degrees here today without the windchill factor and the kids were still loading up the buses. I'll just side with big n'ugly and say they probably thought the roads might ice up.
But I guess the south is just sensitive to that. When I was in Mississippi the university would close even if there was the slightest hint of a single snowflake.
if there is one drop of snow here all schools and colleges and some business's close.......lol
My friends son was just out of school one day a few weeks back for them to wax the freakin floors...okay, do this on the weekend....what a waste!
You probably watched the early days of Sesame St. (which now on DVD have a warning lable not sutiable for young children)
What??? What the... GAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
Anyway, it's true. Schools here closed because it was too cold. Is your classroom outside, fool? Ya'll ain't got heat?
I understand closing for snow and ice here. We don't get that much so we're never prepared. No snow routes for buses, hilly terrain, narrow backroads, lack of experienced drivers, no snowplows, etc.
It's so humid here that what snow we do get is usually very thick, heavy, and compact. Temperature changes can be drastic. Snow partially melts in the daytime and freezes solid at night.
But to close for coldness? It's not even that cold!!

back in my day we had to walk to school 5 miles barefooted in the snow uphill both ways.
geez....

My dad is rather fond of using that line..haha. In any case, up here in the Great White North they wouldn't think of cancelling school for weather unless we get a really significant snow fall (a couple feet or more). I only remember a handful of 'snow days' in my years of schooling. What a bunch of sissies!

We had a problem out here recently when a mob of Kangaroos contracted rabies and started biting kids as they were walking to school in the town about 5 miles away.
The school got the parents to give their kids a couple of shotguns to take along with them on their walk. It sorta fixed the problem, with a couple of minor complications.
They shot 14 kangaroos and 4 of the kids that were acting a little strange.
At least they didn't have to bring lunch to school for a couple of weeks.

...is this true?
After that episode of the Simpsons where they go to Australia, I'm not sure what to believe about your country. ;)

Right off the top; this would never happen in the US.
In the US, the likelihood of kangaroos being involved in schoolchild transportation problems is about equal to the likelihood of American schoolchildren having to walk 5 miles to school.
Maybe five blocks.
Too many Sierra Nevada Celebration Ales. :p
hey
why is sesame street not suitable for kids?
hahahahhaha
I saw big bird with out his top part of his body...his head.
Now< taht is not suitable!
hahahahahha
hey, put on a sweater and get you assss to school......

Gospel truth.
We have some really weird animals here.
A lot of them can be found in sports bars and standing outside public toilets.
(The last time a Kangaroo was booted out of a sports bar in Melbourne, the Animal Rights people had a field day. They joined up with the Civil Rights crew and sued the bar owner for discrimination.
The bar owner actually won the case, because it stated quite clearly outside the door: no shirt, no shoes, - no service
The lawyer for the kangaroo argued that it was discriminatory to throw out the kangaroo because he couldn't read the sign, and therefore wandering into the bar without shoes should not be punished.
The defense retorted that it wasn't the lack of shoes that got the 'roo tossed out, it was his habit of scratching his nuts and then helping himself to bar snacks from tables around him.
Some hairy, tattooed biker-types (although most of them had hair in places other than their heads) took exception to kangaroo-nut flavoured bhaji-mix and started a fight.
The final straw for the publican came when the 'roo jumped on the bar, started singing Tie me biker-babe down, sport while letting an almost interminable stream of Kanga-P over whatever patrons remained.
The 'roo also dropped his chances of winning the case because he failed to wear a suit on the day of his trial. (The magistrate was very conservative)
Gospel truth.

Everything's overprotective
You probably were kept in line by your parents.
You probably watched the early days of Sesame St. (which now on DVD have a warning lable not sutiable for young children)
You even may have even walked to school by yourself or with friends.
But in fairness it could be hazardous road conditions. I do remember my school closing due to bad driving conditions, because of all of the hills we had, for the buses and people driving their kids.
It's freezing here in Chicago. -30 with the wind Chill. I would love to be 8 degrees. :) All the schools are closing around here to except for the Chicago Public Schools. There could be 12 feet of snow and CPS kids still have school. Because the parents need to work and have their kids in a safe place with a hot meal.
