Musical Education Resources
You guys probably know all of this, but for the benefit of those who don't, I thought I'd put a few resources together that might be useful:
(be warned, some of this could be useful to guitards)
Theory:
I found this site really useful - lots of ways to keep your brain and ear tuned

Charts/Tabs:
Guitar pro
I got this the other day and was amazed at how good it is:
And this one, which includes a great slow-downer, plus all the chord diagrams you could wish for:
Guitar Shed:

Hope you find these links useful
Schweet. I'll check those out!
musictheory.net is pretty great, it covers just about most of the basics of intro to theory
My knowledge of theory is, um, minimal. My knowledge of a lot of things is minimal. :(
Ah yes, but faced with the dilemma of a bottle of beer and no bottle opener, I'm sure you'd find a way of getting to the sweet amber nectar!!
Theory:
Plenty of lessons, tabs, resources etc

http://www.activebass.com/
Step by step theory, tutorials and exercises: (also in Spanish)
An Gary Willis' great instructions on how to properly setup intonation etc:
http://garywillis.com/pages/bass/bassmanual/setupmanual.html
thanks ss,
good stuff

HA!! Yes!
Some things I've used include: a butane lighter, a belt buckle, a deck railing, screwdriver, seatbelt buckle, and a claw hammer.
You got to be creative, sometimes.:D

I had to read that twice - ah, you were talking about opening a beer with those things!!
(phew, the alternative would have been a little painful, if not illegal in some States)

Ha! I should have been a little more specific.
My favourite music resource (other than here, of course!) for learning to play bass..StudyBass

Really good site for those who are just starting to learn how to play..covers proper technique, theory, etc..lessons have examples to play along with, quizzes to test your knowledge and songs where those lessons are applied. It also has a bass clef trainer, a fretboard printer, and an online metronome.

Did you mean to put a link there, Dave??
I can't see one in my browser
Seems to work for me (Using IE6 at work) but in any case I updated it with a text link as well!
-Dave
got it
good site, thanks
For those of you that have iPhones, Chordmaster from PlanetWaves

and Guitarists Reference Lite (maj9.com)
are free apps that are really helpful (but I wish they had a version for us uglies)
Great stuff
I love guitar pro 5. Right now to learn the hard parts to charlie parkers donna lee and Billie's Bounce I use guitar pro 5. Not for tabs, but I put in each note in guitar pro, then slow it down and make a loop of only the measures that I have problems with.
also whats cool if you like learning songs quite, goto ultimate-guitar.com and for MOST songs you can download guitar pro files of the songs.
I also know that guitar pro 6 is in closed beta.
Love this software and I use it just like you do, MOC.
However, Donna Lee (if you go the Jaco version) is I think beyond my reach... :(

The music theory one is great! Very helpful. Thanks.

If you ask me to just play root notes again, I'm going to take that guitar off you and shove it down your throat!
