Auditioned last night...
A local band that just lost their rhythm guitarist and are looking for a replacement.
Been a REAL long time since I was the one going to an audition. I have been building bands since my first band, so this is the second time I have auditioned for a band, with a 10 year gap.
This particular band was a buddy band that we liked gigging with. They already have a good fan base and they are way cool guys. Their lead twanger is extremely talented. The music style is like Disturbed. Hard rock with lots of metal influences. The rhythm guitar spot plays a ton of harmonized riffs throughout the songs. Some of them at the top end of my speed limit. It will be challenging to learn, but FUN!
They know me from Pink Lincoln, so I didn't need to bring my 'bestest gear' to the audition. I brought a small rig, but didn't actually play. Instead I recorded their songs without the singer, and took notes while I watched.
The ugly plays a 5-ver and he's really good. Tight with the stinky and just the right amount of melody added to the chord phrasings.
They have a show every weekend for the next 3 weeks, and are interested in having me play those shows. I won't be able to start learning the material till sunday, as my daughter is in town till then. And then I'll have a week to learn it.
Overall the audition went well. I have decided that if they will have me, I'm gonna go for it. I'll still do my solo acosutic thing on the side.
Now I just need to make sure I take the back seat. I'm so used to being the leader guy, so I'll have to keep an eye on that.
Once they give me the thumbs up, I'll post a link to the band for those that are interested.
Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement in the last thread!
And how'd it go??
