You know me well... :D
What's wrong with root notes?
What's wrong with root notes?
Beets me. :D
Nothing is wrong with root note, WLE. I'm just a wee bit adventurous, that's all.
I personally love playing root notes when I get a chance....... Makes it alot easier to get into the music.....(especially when on stage). Alot of what I have been playing for the most part has a very melodic intro, or verse that is a little complex being played with chords and being in odd times. While it sounds good, I still like those moments when you just settle on the root notes and just tandem with the guitar.
I play either or. Roots can be fun, but there's something to be said for ripping up a nice riff like the one in Sir Duke. Playing that song still messes with me.
Still messes with me too :p
I play it on a 6, so I don't go quite so high on the neck. More vertical movement, less horizontal...one of the reasons I'm gonna have to add a 6 string to the family pretty soon.
Ha, I migrated from a 6 to a 5. No real reason. However this was a shot a year or so ago, and the way I play it now I utilize the B string to minimize the jumping all up and down the neck. Whenever I play this riff I wish my 6 wire sounded as good as the Stingray, then I would be set

I think the 5 wire is a curse sometimes. I tend to get a bit lazy on a 5 string and play on the B string for pretty much then entire song. On a 4 string I hardly ever go higher than the 12th fret.
I dig the roots, but too many of my band's songs are just roots, kinda like Social D.
don't get it. Carrot to explain?
err...:o

I would explain it to you but I'm just too lazy. Don't like lazy people? Well I'm sorry.
I yam what I yam... :D
I got your root .....
I use everything I can put my hands on when it comes to playing
Most of the stuff I play bounces off the root note
I'd play if the stinky decided to turnip
I always show up on time, why can't he?
Maybe because I'm tired but that took me a while to figure out...
All you have to do to be original is to actually have the balls to be yourself. Let it come out and it will come out differently. It is not hard to be original; it is fear that keeps us from being original. ~Oteil Burbridge
