Paying my dues - Blister style
Sheesh...I had two auditions this week. The first was as a twanger, and the one last night was both. But while playing the Ugly stick I played so hard I gave myself blisters on my index and middle finger plucking hand.
Declining on both bands, and after trying both at that last band, I put an ad out as a bassist. I can play the twang stick pretty naturally, but there's something magical about the groove and playing bass.

awesome
this is easy
use a pick~!
oh, did you see this guy at the auditions? hehehe

Wow, I don't think I've ever blistered by plucking fingers.
Maybe try turning the amp up and plucking with a lighter touch.
(Or in my case, crank the amp and pluck hard!);)
My index plucking finger is in a constant state of blister. I get a real nice callous built up and then it blisters under the callous. then the callous tears off and I have fresh skin that blisters then gets hard and callous and starts again. It's been like this forever. I have a lot less problem when I'm playing flatwounds but it still happens none the less.

thanks for trying to help. But blisters were a small price to pay for learning I could keep up with a blast-beat metal drummer...without a pick. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...lol)
I've done this many times, particulary when my volume's low..
I really dig in when I play either with a pick or fingers.
Blister my plucking fingers and thumb all the time.
Comes with the territory bro.
I will have to check if I have the pics any more, but my plucking hand is usally a bloody mess at the end of a show.
Actually I think I posted pics of fingers before I will have to look for them
I lack self control. I wish I could over come it but, I have done this my whole life.
+1
The twang stick is the icing on the cake.... but the bass is the cake!
