.
question for mac users
i need a program like this
http://www.maxivista.com/
but is for mac and pc.
basically i want to use my pcs as extra monitors for my mac over my network like the program does. (the program rocks by the way.) i've played with vnc and got as far as mirroring the mac but no multiple monitors. im thinking i need some sort of bonjour client on the pcs but im pretty clueless....
what about X11 forwarding of the programs u need? andLinux or cygwin
when im working i use a 3 monitor setup, one to show the text editor i use to program, one shows my ftp program and firebug console, the other browsers to test changes. i can move my mouse between all 3 monitors, so instead of minimizing and maximimizing windows i just go to the monitor i need, saves alot of time. i need to be able to do the same thing but using my mac as the server. being a mac book i can use finger gestures,(which is the best part of the mac to me) but the 4 finger swipe down adds 2 extra motions and i still can't cuss 2 different things at once lol. the program i need to use is mac only(iphone app dev) so i don't think i can do the forwarding. i could get the cord that allows me to hook up one monitor, but i would still need another monitor, plus i would be unhooking and hooking them up all the time. a kvm switch would probably work but then i'd have cords everywhere and still might need to hook and unhook. plus kvm switches used to be pricey last time i looked.
lol wouldn't be a ubp computer thread without a plug for linux from jackie lol...i've actually been meaning to install a distro with boot camp, just haven't had the time to fight with it.
it wasn't a total Linux plug. andLinux is a coLinux kernel for windoze... X11 is also unix, i think. and cygwin is a beast unto itself.....
i'm just trying to help peeps be free ;)
Uh....
And I thought I was a geek.
Sheesh
+1 to the surf
