So if you all recall Love Dog has been through 2 drummers in the last 6 months.

The first left due to enlisting in the Air Force. I loved playing with that kid. He wasn't super tight but you would have sworn he was the second coming of Keith Moon. He felt it and wanted to make sure you knew it!

The second guy was a dude from where I work who came in did a bunch of shows and recorded an EP with us and then jumped ship to go play with a Reggae Punk band which is his real passion. Good for him! Great player just not into it.

So we put an ad up on Craig's list that said Looking for metal drummer to play in mariachi band That kind of ad weeds out all the way too serious guys and screams come have some fun. We got two responses and lost one dudes number, so we called the other guy in. He came in and rocked the house.

Stepped right up and jammed for 3 hours with me and the Rhythm/singer and although he was a little loose, had no problems working the songs. This guy is a rockabilly drummer with heavy latin influence. He not only plays the drums but is also a competent percussionist with congas, djembe, rototoms, etc... He spent several years studying percussion in central america and his long time drum teacher is a former drummer for buck owens. Very in tune with the groove and completely in love with the music. Hell we threw down some parts of a new song that we're working and he dropped a bossa nova rhythm on it that was absolutely perfect!

So we got done and exchanged some info and sent him on his way with some cd's in the event that we called him back. I asked the band leader what he thought and he point blank said it didn't matter what he thought. What did I think? I had to work with him. Kinda cool to actually be recognized as the bridge. I told him I dug the cat and he said for me to make the call and let him know.

I offered him the job this morning and he accepted!

We got a drummer again and picked up a free percussionist in the mean time. I wish my lead player would hurry back from Iraq. We got a world to conquer!

H
