Bass Effects
Hey all.
I am in a little bit of a dilemma here. I would like to start building an effects board. I play with a band that plays a wide range of styles from folky rock to jazz to alternative rock. I have a boss multi effects pedal but really the only useful thing on it is the tuner. I have found a couple of good package deals on ebay. One that caught my eye was a 3 pack from Behringer. It contains a chorus pedal, limiter / enhancer pedal and overdrive pedal. It also comes with a 10' 1/4 chord and two short patch chords. From my limited research this seems to be a good upgrade from what I have now. What do the great players of UBP have to say on this matter? Any help is much appreciated.

P.S. I play a mexican 4-string P-bass, if that comes into play when buying effect pedals.
I'll partially second that. Definitely go try some Boss pedals. Then if you want to try and save some bucks get the behringer counterparts. Not exactly the same but part of the reason behringer has such a bad rap is because they alledgedly(making sure Slade doesn't get sued) reverse engineer a lot of reputable companies products. I have had good luck with a few of their products and not so good luck with others. Their version of the Tech21 BDDI is supposed to be REALLY good for like $26.00. The Sansamp is a bunch more. I think ToneBender uses a few of the behringer products. Use your ears. They still gotta be better than a cheap multi!

P.S. Welcome to the Ugliest place on earth!
Definately stay away from the Beringer. I owned those pedals once and they were complete crap. Weak sounds, shoddy construction, complete waste of money.
You can't go wrong with Boss pedals, you may also want to try digitech.
Our motto here is try it before you buy it!
i would try whatever pedal before you buy it. regardless of brand.
i love my Boss pedals, and my bass wah is nice too. i also have an ibanez pedal and an eh bass balls, although it needs some TLC..... the Fab Flange from DanO is OK, but it was cheap.
and i do have a behringer octave pedal. it sounds as good or better than the built in ocave FX i had in my SWR 350x head. but octave FX are a biatch to get sounding good, imho. i would try another behringer pedal though.
here are mine:

Jackie....
Where did you get the adapter for your bass balls pedal?
I have one, but no adapter, and it burns through batteries in no time.
So now its sitting on a shelf.
i believe MF or one of the online retailers. it is for the 1Spot adapter.
Thanks for all your help guys!!
I look forward for coming for more advice from the ugliest cats on the planet!
Behringers are often boss clones, I A/Bed the bass drive with the ODB3, pretty much the same (both rubbish sounding) but the hiss kicked in a little sooner on the treble dial of the Behringer. If you can't get somewhere to try things, score cheapy Behringers second hand, and move them on, get the real versions of the ones you like.
Mainly, decide roughly what sounds you want, post up some clips of them, fairly sure the uglies can pick out the effects used.
I personally love the EBS pedals. They are built like tanks and are definitely top notch. They're all around 200 bucks each, so they're not cheap priced but they are specific bass products. If you go to their site they have a list of their pedals and all have live clips of them in use.
Hey Jackie, how do you like that chorus pedal? I've been wanting one, but the cheap ones I've tried all suck. How much tone tweaking does it allow you?
the boss chorus is sweet. it is very adjustable and even has hi and low freq knobs for filtering it out......i've had it since '93 or '95 i think.
and the DD-6 is a monster pedal. hands down my favorite.

I try to stay away from behringer, in general. In my experience they have quality issues. I started my pedal collection on ebay with limited success. I would suggest going to a music store and trying any potential effects you might want. Don't buy it unless you know what you're getting. Once you've played through a some pedals that you like, then go to ebay.
