Hey guise,

So I have that SR1300PM... totally wicked bass. It's the only 4 string I ever touch anymore, and about the only one I plan on keeping.

Plays great, is smooth as butter except... it's ultra gnarled.

The wenge fretboard was pretty bad when I got it... could totally tell it had dried out n'stuff. Cracks and chips in the wood. It needs to be replaced and I'm trying to figure out who I should go about sending it to???

Anyone know how much it costs to get a fretboard replacement? Also, how about fixing and redoing the headstock veneer? If it were possible I think it'd be cool to get the SDGR on the headstock redone as an inlay on a wood veneer...

Plus, I totally dig the Custom Shop insert on the 24th fret. It's like a badge of honor! I don't want to lose that!

Also, the body is a but funky and I think it could use freshening up. Is it possible/practical to say just do a quick sand down of the entire body, then lube it back up?

OTDOY, You're not far from

OTDOY,

You're not far from Tonebender, are you? I know he hasn't been showing his ugly mug around here lately, but I'd definitely hit him up for some info. I'm sure he'd give you some over the phone advice for the price of promising him a beer. I could be wrong, but isn't this kind of thing right up his ally?

Just a thought. Sounds like a cool project though. Ummm, you will be posting pics, right?

Don't make me send that Old F'er after you, young'n.

GW

Grandon has done some AMAZING restorations... give him a call.... Tone Bender too... either option would do you well.

i would suggest tb or grandon

i would suggest tb or grandon as well. unfortunately i think grandon is mia for bass repair or building.......

i wish i could do it, the body sure, but i'd be scared of the fboard.

no chance to rejuvenate the board with some kind of oil?

Ireckon feeding large amount

Ireckon feeding large amount of lemon oil to the board overa period of time is a good start, not much to lose if you are thinking of whipping it off.

I had a twag with nasty sharp fret ends that was cured by a week of daily oiling and leaving it to sink in, the wood swelled back up to where it was when the frets were put it.

Seems the whole dang world is going with fives, or more these days.

Ah well, I'll remain in my little world of fours.

I'll have to snap some

I'll have to snap some pictures later to show you guys. The fret tangs are exposed on the upper frets because of the chipping, and the pitting in the fretboard is more than just natural grain... at this point oil would be like using your waterbottle to put out a house on fire. Sad

I'll pop TB and GW an email sometime this week hmm

I'm cutting my collection down to my Clement, my ATK5 and my SR1300... my 4-string ATKs are SWEET but I never pick them up really because the USATK5 plays better and is more flexible

I've been practicing about 50/50 lately between my SR1300 and #172... some stuff you can't just do right on an ERB, imo... I don't want to lose my 4-string chops.

Different animals, I think... plus Soundgears are just soooo comfortable to play on...
