Amp Question
So I'm looking to buy a new live amp rig for band practices and shows (for when I get back). I'm looking at a Line 6 400 watt combo amp on sale at Musicians Friend. But I also noticed that they are selling a pure Line 6 head (also 400watts) and a Line 6 4x10 Cab (600 watt max 8 Ohms).
My question: Is it worth spending more on the head and the cab for more flexability or should I go for the combo for a bit cheaper since it's the same wattage? What do you think the sound difference would be like, if any?
Get what works for you bro. IMHO I would go with the cab and head separate 1) for Easy of moving 2) For upgrading later 3)its harder to get rid of a larger combo amp
BP, since I seem to recall you playing a good deal of metal, I'd definitely go for the separates. You'll get far more thump out of a 4x10 and your low-B will likely be clearer. It'd probable be easier to add another cab and power amp down the road.
I'm not sure 400 watts will be enough for that genre!
the thing about the line6 combos I looked at
is that they don't take an extension cab
with a head, you could run multiple cabs if you choose
400w is plenty if you have the cabs to make it loud. Totally no point in a 400w combo with no extension cab option, the speaker would be farting out long before you got near that.
Yeah, I gotta say I like the flexibility of options with a separate head and cabs. And, if you go with something like a 2x10 and a 1x15, then you can also split them up and just use one of them for the really small venues or practice.
Although a pair of 2x10s will give a more consistent sound there. Same but louder styley.
For $1129 you can get the new Carvin B2000 with BRX10.4 neo cab and by pratically set for life with that setup. The cab is 4 ohms and gets very deep low B frequencies - it's tuned for that. The cab is also built like a tank and only weighs 76 lbs, really not that heavy. The head is 2,050 watts rms - a lot of power.
I think Vinx might have a good one there. I couldn't conceive of a better amp for loud metal. That's gotta be one thumpin' mutha.
Those Carvin BRX cabs are the shnizz too!
Vinx, that sounds like a bada$$ rig. Where can I find it?
Find it at www.carvin.com

cab might not be as efficient in the combo version, or the speakers themselves might not be as nice.....
if you go separate you can always upgrade to a nicer cab down the road.....
