Several years ago a guy played through my rig with am old Peavey bass and nylon coated strings. I didn't think my rig could get that tactile. Talk about feeling the bass! It was bone rattling thuds, It sounded really nice and he had not even cranked the bass knob on the amp. It is no a tone I would want all the time but for some tunes especially old country with a walking bass or Texas swing it would be mighty mighty.

I am thinking out loud...... I bet an 8 string with the higher string steel the sound would be superb.

I had some black nylon coated

I had some black nylon coated strings (don't know the brand but they had red silk on the ends) that came on my G&L L-1k HOG with a maple neck. They sure looked pretty with the black hardware. They sounded real thumpy too, but I couldn't stand the sticky surface on them and pulled them and replaced with SIT Nickel Power Wounds 45-105s. Bye Bye sticky strings. I don't know if they are all like that, and I did clean them, but I play stuff where I'm flying around for short bursts and I tired quickly trying to move on the sticky strings. As soon as I got the nickels on I could fly. If I was playing some slower moving tunes needing some deep tone I thing that could be an application where these would have worked. For Pop-Alt Rock they didn't work out for me.You might get the same tone with flats I would think without the sticky surface?
