MM Stingray H or HH?
He UBPs!, first post here!
Can anyone with experience with both give opionions on Stingray H versus HH configuration? Looking at an HH for a nice finger rest and possibly some punhier bass tone with the neck PUP. I can't find any HH SRs around here. I have a 30th anniversary and with the H and it seems like it has plenty of low end. The only thing I thought was lacking was G-string clarity, however somehwhat counter-intuitiively figured out that un-scooping the mid (on the 3-band EQ) to mid postion brought back the clarity on the G-string. So tone wise I can seem to get it all from 1 PUP, but like the thought of an even punchier sound on a stinray from a PUP up by the neck.
So anyway, other than a nice finger rest, what will the added neck PUP provide in terms of tone enhancement and versatility? I play primarily finger style with some pick for alt rock and pop-rock, with very very limited slapping/tapping. Opinons and thoughts appreciated.
Thanks,
Reb
...but in the Sterling (the real Sterling, not the new ones)
I do Like the HH on my fretted, and am happy with the myriad of tonal variations.
But... on my fretless (H + Piezo) even when fully switched to magnetic rather than piezo, still gives me the best tone.
If you want heaps of variation, go the HH, but if you want that real MM tone, I'd stick with the H.
Just my 2C
Jason, I know you're a big MM fan - do you still have that wine-red 'ray?
Oh yeah, welcome to the site Rebmo.
Gear pics in the porn thread real soon or risk gettin' yer azz chewed!!
Hey!, there's a gear pic in my postings. I decided to go with an H that was out there. I'ts a MM SR H 05 Limited Edition. Not shure what's so limited about it but I like the buttercream color and it does have a cool case. Besides the stuff that doesn't matter is that it is said to be in mint condtion and the pickgaurd film is still on it. If it plays and sounds near as good as my 06 30th, It'll do the job just fine. It's shipping Monday and should be here end of this week so I'll chime in on how it sounds.

Sorry double clicked the post again.
yeah, still have old red. she's my go to bass for sure. She'll never leave me.....
Congrats on your new stick.
I know I'm too late but I have a Stingray and really wish it had a neck pickup. Beefier sound.
You'll like it, though. Nice stuff!
I got my HH a couple years ago and it works wonders for the cover band I'm in. I'm able to get a growly sound for motown and funk, and a fat bass sound for rock out of it. My only downside is that it tends to be a bit harder to slap and pop on it (mostly slapping), but I've re-adjusted the bridge pickup to be lower and it is just fine now.

both are fantastic basses- I'm an H fan myself, but would love to add an HH to my arsenal....
IMHO you can't go wrong with either...
welcome to the site amigo!
here's to the wind that breezes, through the treeses, up girls skirts and between their kneeses, to that little spot that teases and pleases and gives men diseases oh Jesus (said with a drunken Scottish accent)
