Who is better for you?, active or passive, why?
What type of bass preffer or use and why, what do you think about the other type that you dont have or use?
My G&L does both, but the passive just never has enough punch. But then, I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to this stuff. There's probably many ways to get great punch out of a passive bass. I hear a lot of people like the passive because it's smoother or something. But again... I am an idiot.
Welcome to UBP, man. Never fear, there are far more useful people than I around here. I'm sure you'll get some real input soon.
active/passive
it's like solid state/tuber
active are really clean and clear hot signal sticks
passives are more primal and harmonic but need more push and therefore noisier
the entire rock industry was built on passive basses
I don't see any as better than the other
just more than one choice
i have both. i prefer active. although that is proly because they typically have more flexible EQ, i.e., midrange and possibly semi-parametric. i would totaly try a passive bass with an actual EQ instead of a tone knob.
I prefer passive. Just has a nicer more organic sound. Rich.
I fight with active. It's either too trebly or too boomy. Can't seem to get that right mix. OTOH, you get nice, little growl with actives.
Are you looking to buy something new?
Welcome to UBP.
Passive, cause I always rip the gubbins out of my basses and wire them funny. Usually stereo, so each pickup has its own out. Both my BC Riches have an active boost option, hence un-BASKness, extra knob to control a mad volume boost (10db) you can kick in by flipping a switch. Batteries are a hassle I have enough of with my pedals.
And enjoy the particular qualities of each. Keep in mind that there is a lot of variability in tone quality between different preamp models and the more expensive ones seem to merit the additional cost. My actives have Audere and Bartolini pre's in them and sound fantastic.
On the passive side, the quality of the pickups makes a huge difference in sound.
Welcome to UBP!
Pull up a seat and have a
I'm currently playing a passive Fender Jazz V and it sounds great. I do own tho 6 active basses and have liked them all. Tho, I've got a Carvin LB75AP Anniversary that is active/passive and despite all the EQ layout on the bass, I prefer the passive sound better on that particular insturment.

I have both
I like em all
