Did I screw up?
Hello Uglies I need your opinions. Historically I never cared for brand name or the like and always played what felt, looked or sounded right. Then it happened, I traded into a Fender American Deluxe 5 string and didnt really care for it, at first, so I put in some barts, a badass bass bridge, gotoh lightweights and a mighty mite 4 and 1 neck. Now I love it. My band mates are all of the opinion that I trade out my gear too much and shouldnt have screwed with the originality. Now the only thing that I actually modified was the screw holes for the bridge, everything else can be returned to stock ( if I can find the Pieces when the time comes!) I dont have any immediate plans to find this one a new home but they are probably right so , Did I kill the value of this beast for those who do care about names and such?
... did I screw up?
Well I guess to completely trash a perfectly good stick could be considered screwing up...
..but I guess you like it - you made it yours..
.. and if you can find the parts you could (probably) put it back together.
Hopefully it'll play straight.
But look, if you love it and it has a great tone, tell 'em all to get stuffed.
yes it is ruined.
haha just kidding, nah its fine man. I bass is a tool and you got to make it work for you. now if you are some sort of collector, then yes, you did screw up... but if you are like 90% of the people here, you are a player, then you are fine. You made it how you wanted it and thats what matters.
rock.
DDD
Nah, like DDD said, the bass is just a tool to make music. All you did was make this one your own.
You could buy one of those Fender Logo's on eBay and put it on the headstock. Then tell your band-mates you picked up a Fender for the bass to make it complete. You dont' have to say you picked up just the logo.
Actually, I would make my own logo, and instead of the end, I would put uck...all the same font. Then when the guys say, Hey, your bass says f***er, say Indeed it does. That's what they get for reading it in the first place.

Man I'm lovin' that - serve 'em right for being Brand-whores!!
Sounds like it's trashed to me. The only thing that can be done with it now is to send it to me so that I can see that it is properly disposed of. This is a service I offer at no charge to you as a new member of the UBP world.

I second that - send it to bare and he'll dispose of it.
(BTW Bare, you have my address, right?)

Bare Handed wrote:Awesome! Hey can I send ya the old parts? They are........ well they're original, anyway. its cool that the Real bassists here at UBP are more concerned with issues such as sound, playability and general vibe, after all thats what made the standards, standard in the first place, right? I wonder how quickly I would be crucified if I posted over on TB? I may do it just to p**s em off

DO IT!!!
I think the guys and gals here at UBP are in this to make great music and have fun doing it. No real shred of gear snobbery in these parts!
Hang on to your old parts
(you guys can stop laughing now)
I mean, if you think about trading/selling at a later date
you can reinstall those original parts
and keep the ones you installed to ruin your next bass with
in the mean time, ride that stick young ugly!
OFC has to hang onto all his old parts - lets face it, they're all retreads anyway.
But old parts or not, his advice is still sound.
Mod it up, keep the old bits, and don't drill any more holes than necessary.
Maybe... but if it plays, sounds, feels good... who gives a flyin' f**k right?
