Music for Mood
It's just been an Allman Brothers kind of day, y'all. I've listened to Eat a Peach, Brothers and Sisters, and Live at Fillmore East back to back.
It's been very cathartic considering the mood I'm in and all the stuff that's on my mind lately. No need to go in to it all but there's several things weighing on my mind.
Anyway, y'all ever listen to something and go, man, that's exactly that I needed to hear?
If I'm feeling really depressed, it's Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon.
allman bros totally rock.
i find myself spinning up G'N'R Lies sometimes when the week ain't going so well. or Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power.
the only thing I can do is play the Dead. sometimes a days' therapy is enough. Sometimes I need a week or two. When it goes on like that my wife gets agitated (she hates the dead); but then she also gets uptight when I get into a blues mood and play blues music nonstop for a week or so.
I am probably the only person in the world who has been a Metallica fan from the mid eighties and adore St. Anger. It's an angry, frustrated album, which helps me work through mine.
Also, Manowar works well for me.
What songs would make a good introduction to the Allman Brothers? Several people recommended them, but random clicking on YouTube didn't really impress me - which surprised me, since I dig the blues.
Whipping Post, Statesboro Blues, Midnight Rider, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Soulshine, Hoochie Coochie Man to name a few.
i just don't know if there are any good recordings on YouTube.

Southbound, baby!!
Love is blue. I wish I had the solo the Orchestra director wrote for the bass back in '68. Its a sad song that brings back fond memories. About four years ago, I spoke to one of youngest sister's friends. She played the same solo five years later. Common threads for very different people
For me, it's Hendrix and Trower. That music just takes me places. Better places, when I'm in a bad place. And, here's an odd one, though... Fats Domino! My Dad was a big fan of the Fat Man. Brings back memories of when I was a kid, listening to him spin Fats Domino records, as I fell asleep. hrb
Yup. 2012 has been a pretty... craptastic year so far, and I've had the same few albums on repeat just to keep me sane while I dart around the south-west. Mostly Pinback...
